At The Core

Founder & CEO

Baltimore, MD

I know what it’s like from your side of the desk - the challenges you face and the decisions you grapple with, the wins you’d like to see, and the sacrifices it will take to get there. I know the significance of your bottom line, what it’s like to build and lead a team, and what’s running through your mind on your drive home from work. Some of my earliest memories involve a family member grappling with the unique decisions that business owners face. As a third-generation entrepreneur, I’ve been learning those navigational skills since grade school. I spent the first 15-yrs of my career as hands-on COO of a rapidly growing architecture firm, and facilitating our weekly leadership team meetings — where we grappled with every kind of decision you face growing a company in uncertain terrain. And for the past 18+ years I've seen inside the decisions of every stage of business - from the challenges of a startup, to the growing pains and victories, to the daunting gauntlet of M&A. I've stepped in as a turn-around CEO, and advised 100+ clients including C-Suite Execs, seasoned and first-time founders from seed stage to +$200M ARR. You can also find me at the mic as the lead singer of The Wafflers – and if you ask nicely, I might tell you about the time I won 1st place in a Truck Pull.

"Growing a business is often messy and painful, but leaders are expected to be poised and pulled-together. All that messiness needs an outlet somewhere, and Jodi is often mine. Serving as equal parts sounding board & thought partner, she always helps me process the jumble into something useful and strategic. "

Jess Gartner, Founder & CEO, Allovue

I'm typically a decisive person but I was pretty stuck and balled up on a decision that needed to be made. Jodi quickly helped me unravel the interactive pieces to have clarity in how to move forward. In the span of just two, one-hour phone calls, I had confidence in my way forward. I highly recommend Jodi for leaders looking for decision support. She's great at it and has a fabulous, infectious energy.

I call Jodi when the things that are most important to me feel out of sync. I call her when I'm sensing a conflict between what I feel I have to do and what my core is telling me I need/want to do. I call Jodi when I have an unease at the intersection of home/profession/self that I just can't seem to put my finger on.. Or I have my finger on it, but then I just don't know what to do with it... Or I know what to do with it, but I want to check in with someone else who sees and gets My big picture and can provide insight/support/guidance on How I might do it.

Jodi’s doesn’t just work from the sidelines. She dives into the fray with her clients… partnering with them, learning with them, and helping them to achieve the outcomes that may have once thought unattainable. I’ve worked with numerous coaches and consultants who tout their patented systems for growth and success, but those one-size-fit-all approaches lack utility and often fall well short of the mark. Jodi doesn’t pretend to already know what’s right for you. She embraces the inherent messiness of life and business, and helps clients develop strategies that are unique to their specific styles, circumstances, and tendencies.

Rich Polt, Founder, Acknowledge Media

Jodi has the remarkable ability to be both brutally honest and entirely gracious at the same time.

C
Carol Keese, VP of Communications, University of Virginia

Jodi is an advisor to many CEOs and founders in the region, and someone I know to have great judgment and insight in some of the most important matters that leaders face (often about themselves).

There’s so much I just can’t share with my team. My friends don’t really get my business, and while I talk to my spouse about a lot, I worry sometimes that’s a burden. Jodi just seems to get it. No matter what IT is, she’s so quick at digesting it all and identifying what the core issue is. And because she doesn’t have a horse in the game, I feel like I can tell her anything. She’s also just really easy to talk to.

You know how when your inkjet printer starts printing gaps and lines, you know it’s time to clean the print heads? Well, when my brain feels that way, I know I need to call Jodi. When I hang up, I’m clear. I know what I need to do.

F
Founder, PR Firm

Jodi does a tremendously good job at helping navigate the messy emotional dimensions of leadership and people management, which is not to take away from her equally great mind for strategy and execution, but I think it’s a key differentiator for her versus some of the more tactical/operational coaches out there.

J
Jess Gartner, Founder & CEO, Allovue

I call Jodi when I can’t get to the bottom of a business decision and feel paralyzed or wrapped in confusion, and I suspect there is an emotional component to what is happening for me. Before I talk to her, I feel confused and angsty. Afterwards, I feel clear and excited.

C
Cristen Pascucci, Founder, Birth Monopoly

With Jodi skillfully at the helm, there was never a single minute wasted getting to the core of issues or concerns we face as leaders, and then problem-solving real solutions.

B
Beth Lawrence, Co-Founder & CEO - InferCabulary

Jodi won’t ever let you lie to yourself. Having a spot where I could discuss real founder-CEO specific issues while also covering my personal and family well being was amazing.

C
Chris Sleat, Founder/CEO, Workbench

Jodi has a remarkable ability to see, synthesize, distill and articulate core issues that help others grow.

P
Paul Wolman, Founder & CEO, PW Feats

Jodi never holds back on the truth. But she’s just as fierce about making you see and accept the good stuff as she is unafraid to tell you when you’re being an idiot.

COO, National Non-Profit
